Application of weighing equipment in the pharmaceutical industry

Weighing equipment is widely used in the pharmaceutical industry, such as material storage and storage, production and packaging of raw materials, pharmaceutical preparation, inspection, and production and packaging of pharmaceutical preparations. In order to reduce the possibility of product cross-contamination and microbial contamination, all equipment related to drug production must comply with GMP. Weighing equipment is one of the key points of quality and health and safety control in the drug production process. During the entire drug production process, The accuracy of weight is very important. Weighing equipment is also a potential source of contamination. It must be cleaned frequently and there must be no dead ends for cleaning. In the clean production area, the surface roughness of stainless steel and the degree of protection of the equipment must also be considered to prevent the accumulation of microorganisms and facilitate cleaning.

Pharmaceutical companies should carefully consider the following questions when purchasing electronic scales: Do you want to weigh corrosive substances? Is it used to weigh explosive substances? Moisture or dust particles (protection level) of the weighing environment? What is the purpose of buying an electronic scale (weighing, checkweighing, counting, filling, formula application)? Want to print? Need to be connected to a microcomputer for easy control? Do you have a minimum weighing warning function? What other applications do electronic scales need?

In the production process of the bulk drug, traditionally, the flow meter and liquid (material) level meter are used for the detection of the liquid tank and storage tank. In terms of constant volume measurement, some media have low accuracy in constant volume measurement (for example, if 100 mL of 95% alcohol is added to 100 mL of water, the value is less than 200 mL, and the mass remains the same). The liquid (material) level gauge needs to be in direct contact with the material, which is not in line with GMP. With the advancement and improvement of weighing technology, non-contact, unaffected by material characteristics, adaptable to different processes and materials, and more in compliance with GMP weighing detection methods are increasingly used, such as biological engineering and bulk drug Preparation and so on.

This article focuses on the application of weighing equipment in the preparation of injectables. At present, some high-end pharmaceutical companies have begun to use weighing technology to control and detect the preparation process of injections, which has increased the level of automation in metering management and ensured the quality of medicines. Take a typical dispensing tank weighing system in the production of injectables as an example. As shown in Figure 1, three pressure weighing modules installed at the bottom of the tank transmit the weight signal of the tank to the junction box. Signal of the weighing module, and the angle difference can be adjusted according to the load of each weighing module. The collected weighing signals are sent to the weighing terminal or weight transmitter, and the weighing terminal or weight transmitter processes the weight signal. The corresponding weight data is uploaded to the PLC or DCS system to achieve weighing measurement and ingredient control to ensure product quality.
